Slate's Media Hub

Keep all your team's media in one place. Learn how to upload, preview, organize into folders, and pull assets straight into your Slate projects — all from the Media Hub.

What's in this article:

What is the Media Hub?

The Media Hub is a centralized, team-wide media library that lives in the Slate web app. Instead of re-uploading the same assets across every project, you upload them once, organize them into folders, and reuse them anywhere — including straight into the Web Creation Studio and the iOS app's Media section.

You can upload images, videos, and GIFs, preview any asset alongside its full technical specs, organize everything into nested folders, and act on many assets at once with multi-select. It's a shared library for your whole team, not a per-project asset bin.

A few things to know:

  • It's team-wide, not per-project. Everything you upload lives in one shared library rather than being tied to a single project.

  • Uploaded media only. The Media Hub currently holds brand media you upload directly, as well as media used in shared projects.

  • Sharing a folder link doesn't grant access on its own. Anyone you share with still needs their own Slate account to open it.

How to upload media

The Media Hub supports images, videos, and GIFs, up to 20GB per file.

  1. Open the Media Hub in the Slate web app

  2. Click Upload Media (or drag files straight into the window)

  3. Select one or more files — you can drop several at once

  4. A floating progress component appears in the corner. Expand it to see every file in flight, or collapse it for non-intrusive monitoring

  5. Uploads continue in the background as you keep working

While an upload is in progress, you can pause, resume, or cancel any individual file from the progress component. Each file shows its size and current state as it uploads.

NOTE: The 20GB limit applies per file. Larger files need to be compressed or split before uploading.

Previewing media and viewing asset details

Open any asset to play it back and inspect its full technical details. Each media type surfaces its own metadata:

  • Video: file size, codec, container, resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, bit rate, color space, and color sampling, along with duration and creation date

  • Images: file size, resolution, format, aspect ratio, color mode, bit depth, color space, and compression

  • GIFs: aspect ratio, format, and resolution, with auto-play in the preview

Opening an asset also reveals its action panel, where you can:

  • Download the asset

  • Share it — grab a link to that single asset, separate from folder-level sharing

  • Add To Project — drop it straight into a new or existing project

  • Edit the Media name to rename it

  • Add Search Terms to tag it for easier discovery later

  • Use the Location breadcrumb to jump back to the folder that contains it

Organizing with folders

Group assets into folders, and nest folders inside folders for deeper organization. Folders can be edited, moved, or deleted using the same controls as assets.

  • Create a folder: Click New Folder at the top of any folder view, then name it

  • Nest folders: Drill down through parent and child folders using the folder tree in the left sidebar and the breadcrumbs across the top

  • Move by dragging: Drag any folder or asset onto another folder — either its card in the grid or its entry in the sidebar tree — to move it instantly. Valid drop targets highlight as you drag, and a toast confirms the move

  • Set a folder cover: Open the ••• menu on any asset inside a folder and choose Set as Folder Thumbnail. Folder cards show a cover image and item count (e.g. "354 media") so you can recognize them at a glance

Every asset card also has a ••• quick actions menu — hover over a card for one-click access to Edit, Add to Project, Download, Move, Set as Folder Thumbnail, and Delete without opening the full detail panel.

Views, filtering, and multi-select

Switch between grid and list layouts to match how you want to scan your library. List view adds columns for Name, Last edited, Ratio(s), and Duration.

Filter and sort to find things fast:

  • Media Type: Video, Image, GIF

  • Aspect ratio

  • Uploaded by: pick one or more teammates

  • Sort by Created Date

Select multiple assets to act on them all at once. Selecting assets reveals a contextual action bar where you can:

  • Add search tags for easier discovery later

  • Add to Project — drop everything selected into a new or existing project in one step

  • Download the selected assets locally

  • Move them to any folder

  • Delete them in one action

How to add media to a project in Web Creation Studio

You can send media from the Media Hub straight into the Web Creation Studio.

  1. Choose Add To Project — from an asset's ••• menu, its detail panel, or the multi-select bar

  2. Pick New project or Existing project

  3. For a new project, choose a size:

    • A custom Ratio — 1:1, 3:4, 4:5, 9:16, or 16:9

    • Or a platform-ready template for Instagram, TikTok, Carousel, Facebook, X, YouTube, LinkedIn, or Pinterest

  4. Slate creates the project and drops you into the Web Creation Studio with your asset already placed on the canvas

NOTE: The same folders, cover cards, breadcrumbs, and preview thumbnails from the Media Hub also appear in the Web Creation Studio under Media → Brand Media, so pulling media into a project looks and works exactly like browsing the Hub.

How to add media to a project in Web Creation Studio

You can add media from your Media Hub straight into your editing canvas on the iOS app.

  1. Open the media drawer

  2. Click the drop down next to your photos folder at the top of the drawer

  3. Select Team Library to access the media hub

  4. From there, you can click the folder icon or the filter icon to narrow down your search, or simply type into the search bar to quickly find what you're looking for.

How to share a folder

Every folder header includes a Share Folder action, so you can share a whole folder of assets in one move instead of picking individual files.

  1. Open the folder you want to share

  2. Click Share Folder at the top of the folder view (next to Upload Media and New Folder)

  3. Share the link with your team

NOTE: A folder share link doesn't automatically grant access. The person you share with still needs their own Slate account to open the folder.

Q: How do I add media straight into a project?

A: Use Add to Project from an asset's ••• menu, the asset detail panel, or the multi-select bar.

Q: Is the Media Hub a per-project asset bin?

A: No. It's a centralized, team-wide library, so everything you upload is available across all your projects.
